Ms. Hopkin joined the Shelter in late summer and has been working with her staff to prepare for the October 21st opening.
Hilary was born and raised in the seacoast and lived many years in the lake’s region of Maine before returning to her roots on the New Hampshire coast. Ms. Hopkin completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Maine, Portland, and was awarded a Bachelor of Social Work with a GPA of 3.5. She is twice the recipient of an award of excellence from the National Association of Social Work (NASW). She obtained advanced placement into the masters program at UNE, Portland, where she again graduated with honors and was awarded a Masters in Social Work. She graduated with a 3.95.
Hilary has broad clinical experience, working first with people experiencing mental health challenges and traumatic and acquired brain injuries; she then went back to school and started working with kids in crisis and continues to carry a caseload as an independent case worker. Hilary did both her undergrad and master’s clinical internships working with homeless populations in our region. The first at Preble Street, Portland, Me and the second for her clinical internship at New Generation in Greenland, NH.
In making the announcement, Board President Kathleen Levesque said, “We are thrilled to have Hilary Hopkin’s expertise, experience, and heart for people overseeing the care and training of the people we serve. We are a strategic shelter, and our programming focuses on getting the clients in our program into permanent housing.”
